Celebrating a Century: Evergood Sausage Co. Marks 100 Years of Tradition
Evergood Sausage Co. has reached a remarkable milestone, celebrating its 100-year anniversary. This achievement highlights a century of family leadership, old-world craftsmanship, and steadfast dedication to hardwood-smoking traditions that have been in place since 1926.
From Neighborhood Butchershop to National Brand
Founded by Bavarian immigrant Jacob Rauscher in San Francisco’s Mission District, Evergood Sausage Co. began as a local butchershop. Over the decades, it has transformed into a nationally recognized brand, continuing its rich legacy from its historic Bayview District facility, once known as Butchertown, where it maintains traditional hardwood-smoking practices.
“Reaching 100 years is incredibly humbling,” said Donny Miller, VP of Sales and Marketing at Evergood. “My grandfather and father built this company on relationships, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to quality. As we look ahead to the next era, our mission remains the same: honor our heritage, keep making traditional sausages the way we always have, and continue earning trust one sausage at a time.”
Retail Expansion and Generational Leadership
A significant turning point for Evergood occurred in 1968 when a Safeway meat buyer discovered its products, propelling the company from a small route-delivery business to a major retail producer. The following decades saw leadership transition to the Miller family, with Harlan Miller and later his son Don Miller steering the company through pivotal industry changes, such as vacuum packaging and centralized distribution while nurturing partnerships with major chains, including Safeway and Costco.
Under Don Miller’s strategic direction as Chief Revenue Officer, Evergood expanded its market presence while adhering to a core philosophy: if you produce exceptional products, customers will seek you out. This belief propelled the popularity of Evergood’s signature Hot Links to cult status, setting the stage for sustainable growth.
Innovative Leadership for the Next Generation
Now, the third generation of the Miller family takes the helm. Donny Miller has introduced new flavors, enhanced digital engagement, and accelerated national foodservice expansion. Today, Evergood products are featured in various venues, including stadiums as the official sausage of the San Francisco Giants, corporate dining programs, and chef-driven restaurants nationwide.
All Evergood sausages are naturally smoked over hardwood and crafted from premium whole food ingredients, including pork, beef, and chicken. The company boasts an impressive lineup of nine sausage varieties: Louisiana Hot Link Sausage, Pineapple Sausage, Mild Link Sausage, Chicken Apple Sausage, Polish Kielbasa Sausage, Bockwurst Sausage, Garlic Sausage, British-Style Bangers, and Old Fashioned Beef Frankfurters.
Looking Ahead: Commitment to Quality and Tradition
With three generations of the Miller family paving the way, Evergood Sausage Co. enters its second century dedicated to exceptional products, authentic processes, and enduring partnerships. The company’s rich heritage and strong values continue to drive its commitment to quality as it looks forward to the future.
