Bob Johnson Inducted into North Carolina Poultry Science Hall of Fame
Robert C. “Bob” Johnson, the esteemed CEO and owner of House of Raeford Farms, has been recently honored with induction into the North Carolina Poultry Science Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition marks him as the third generation of his family to achieve this noteworthy milestone.
A Legacy of Leadership in the Poultry Industry
With this induction, Bob Johnson joins an elite circle of poultry industry leaders, including his grandfather, Nash Johnson (honored in 1977), and his father, E. Marvin Johnson (inducted in 1998). This three-generation legacy underscores the Johnson family’s profound and lasting impact on North Carolina’s poultry sector.
The North Carolina Poultry Federation (NCPF) administers the Hall of Fame, an organization that has been instrumental in supporting the state’s poultry producers and processors since 1968. Since 1975, the NCPF has celebrated individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement and success of the poultry industry.
Driving Excellence at House of Raeford Farms
Under Bob Johnson’s visionary leadership, House of Raeford Farms has consistently ranked among the top ten chicken producers in the United States. The company stands as one of North Carolina’s leading revenue-generating enterprises, with operations extending across several southeastern states.
Beyond his corporate role, Bob actively participates in the broader poultry community, serving on the boards of both the NCPF and the National Chicken Council, as well as the International Poultry and Egg Association. His influence spans both national and international arenas, helping to shape crucial policies and industry standards.
Commitment to Community and Service
In addition to his professional achievements, Bob Johnson is deeply committed to community service. In 2009, he founded House of Raeford Farms FLOCK (Faithful Love Offering for Christ’s Kingdom), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth programs, hunger relief initiatives, and mental health and addiction recovery efforts. Through donations, volunteerism, and local partnerships, FLOCK has become an essential pillar of the company’s community outreach efforts.
Recognizing Industry Leaders
During the Hall of Fame ceremony, J. Walter “Gator” Pelletier III was also recognized for his contributions to the poultry industry. A veteran of Goldsboro Milling Company and a key figure in the development of Butterball, Pelletier’s strategic vision has played a crucial role in shaping the future of the turkey sector.
Looking to the Future
Currently, Bob’s son, Cowan Johnson, serves as president of both the Ready-to-Cook and Further Processing Divisions of House of Raeford, as well as the North Carolina Poultry Federation. At the induction event, Cowan spoke about the profound influence his father and grandfather have had on the poultry industry in North Carolina, emphasizing the enduring impact of their work.
The Johnson family’s legacy spans four generations of dedication to the poultry industry and their communities. With Bob Johnson leading and the next generation emerging, House of Raeford Farms is well-positioned for continued growth and positive influence throughout the Southeast.
