Market Overview

This week, the number of cattle yarded decreased by 1800, leading to a total of 6646 head. Despite the drop in numbers, the quality remained high with an ample supply of prime cattle across all sections. Additionally, there were considerable numbers of weaners available for restockers and backgrounders.
Trade Prices
Young cattle intended for trade showed a slight decrease of up to 5 cents per kilogram, with prime vealers and yearlings trading between 450c and 519c/kg. In terms of feeder cattle, steers remained steady to 5 cents dearer, while feeder heifers saw a drop of 10 to 20 cents. Feeder steers achieved prices from 470c to 540c, and feeder heifers were sold for 414c to 494c/kg. Restockers could acquire young steers at 584c and young heifer restockers at 498c/kg.
Grown Cattle Prices
Grown steers were reported to be 4 to 6 cents cheaper, whereas grown heifers experienced a price rise of 6 cents per kilogram. Prime grown steers traded between 460c and 522c, while prime grown heifers fetched prices from 440c to 500c/kg.
Heavy-weight cows held steady in pricing, whereas secondary cows increased by 7 cents. Processors acquired 2 and 3 score cows priced between 260c and 402c, while prime heavy-weight cows averaged 416c/kg, trading from 386c to 438c/kg. For restockers, cows sold from 170c to 360c/kg. Heavy bulls saw minor gains with sales reaching up to 450c/kg.
