The recent sale at Dubbo showcased a significant yarding of 7,700 cattle, attributed to the first sale in a fortnight amidst ongoing dry conditions. The cattle quality varied, featuring a predominance of cows, many in store condition, alongside large numbers of weaners ideal for restockers. A few pens of prime cattle were present, although young cattle suitable for feeders were limited.
Price Trends
Young Cattle
Young cattle prices remained firm with prime vealers and yearlings fetching between 362c and 500c/kg. Feeder steers saw a slight increase of up to 5c/kg, while the best feeder heifers remained stable; however, most experienced a decrease of up to 20c/kg. Specifically, feeder steers sold within the range of 380c to 529c, while feeder heifers ranged from 316c to 484c/kg. Young cattle for restockers were about 50c/kg cheaper, yet young steers still achieved sales up to 536c/kg, with restocker heifers reaching 438c/kg.
Grown Cattle
The few available grown steers were noted to be down by 20c/kg, while grown heifers saw a slight drop of 3c/kg. Prime grown steers sold between 400c and 470c, whereas prime grown heifers were in the range of 400c to 466c/kg. Cows directed to processors were about 4c to 6c/kg cheaper, selling for 190-345c/kg for scores 2 and 3, and averaging 365c/kg for prime heavyweights. Cows for restockers gained 10c, trading between 155c and 346c/kg. Heavy bulls managed to sell at 400c/kg.
