Sean O’Scannlain, the founder and CEO of Fortune International, isn’t just wheeling and dealing to beef up the size of his already large US seafood wholesale business. He’s also looking to sell his 15,180-square-foot home in Chicago, Illinois, for $8.5 million, reports The Real Deal, a New York City-based online publication focused on real estate. 

The O’Scannlains are empty nesters looking to downsize into a condominium, according to the article.  

The 13-year-old structure, which has five bedrooms, a swimming pool and other amenities, is unusually large for the Ravenswood neighborhood where it is located, according to the article. Tim Salm of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty reportedly told another news outlet that there’s not currently a plan to list the home generally. 

The O’Scannlains reportedly paid a little under $1.5m for the land in 2010, though what the couple paid to actually build the home is unknown. 

“If the home sells close to its asking price, it won’t just be the most expensive Ravenswood home sold this year, it would more than double the next highest,” The Real Deal reports, noting: “Currently, the May sale of a property three blocks north for $3.8m holds the crown.” 

Bensenville, Illinois-based Fortune International, the parent of Fortune Fish & Gourmet, founded in 2001 by O’Scannlain, in late August announced the acquisition of the Boston, Massachusetts-based Steve Connelly Seafood Company, as reported by UCN. The new addition, which was to be rolled into Boston Sword & Tuna, was just the latest in a series of deals that made Fortune one of the seafood industry’s largest wholesalers. 

The company, which also acquired two Southern US operations from Inland Fresh Seafood Corporation of America in June, was expected to hit $1.3bn in annual revenue in 2026, representing 10% year-on-year growth.
