Survey on Disease Detection in Northern Australian Cattle
Australia’s northern cattle production system stands out as both extraordinary and challenging, particularly in terms of disease detection and management.
Understanding Disease Detection Challenges
As the risk of exotic diseases in northern Australia is heightened due to its geographic proximity to Asia, it’s crucial to comprehend how effectively serious disease outbreaks are detected. This likelihood fluctuates significantly between the wet and dry seasons.
Producers who breed or receive northern Australian cattle play a vital role in the country’s broader disease surveillance efforts.
Survey Invitation for Cattle Producers
In response to these challenges, Ausvet, a leading animal health group, is inviting cattle station managers and stockmen from Northern Australia, or those receiving these cattle, to participate in a survey. This survey focuses on understanding the observation and reporting of diseases in extensively managed cattle herds. The insights gained will be instrumental in enhancing protection against serious animal diseases.
About Ausvet
Ausvet operates as a multi-disciplinary team of veterinary professionals and scientists dedicated to addressing animal and human health challenges. Functioning under the World Health Organization’s ‘One Health’ platform, their work is pivotal in enhancing health practices in agriculture.
Survey Participation Details
This survey primarily seeks participants who are experienced owners, managers, or stockmen familiar with general station operations and management statistics (e.g., number of cattle). It comprises mostly visual questions and is designed to take no more than 10-15 minutes. All responses will remain confidential, with only aggregated data being published.
Please complete the survey by 28 September to contribute to this essential initiative.
