IceFish 2026 will host its dedicated Aquaculture – Driving Sustainable Growth conference on Tuesday 22 September, bringing together aquaculture producers, technology suppliers, researchers, regulators and investors to address the practical challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. 

Taking place at Smárinn Halls in Kópavogur, Iceland, the one-day conference will focus on practical solutions, industry collaboration and transferable models that can support resilient, responsible and commercially sustainable aquaculture development. 

Chaired by Ólöf Helga Jónsdóttir, CPO at Kaldvik, the programme opens with Blue Food Futures: Policy, Partnerships & Global Growth. This session will explore how trusted regulation, credible standards and effective oversight across food safety, animal health and welfare can create the foundations for sustainable growth and international market access. 

The morning programme will also examine seafood traceability and the role of collaboration in building more efficient, transparent and resilient supply chains. Kevin Edwards, VP Global Market Development at the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability, will discuss how the GDST Standards community is helping governments, supply-chain organisations, technology providers, NGOs and international buyers strengthen market readiness, trade and trust. 

Further sessions will turn to production, feeds and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), with presentations addressing fish welfare, oxygen efficiency and health under challenging conditions. Delegates will hear how nanobubble technology can support oxygen efficiency, fish welfare and reduced vessel emissions, as well as research into dietary diformates and rainbow trout performance under high-temperature stress. 

The conference will also spotlight AI and emerging technology in aquaculture. Speakers from Baader, Oxyguard, EquaFish, Avascope and AquaBioTech Group will explore welfare-verified and modular processing infrastructure, connected monitoring and control systems, the use of operational data, biological-risk management, and AI-based early detection of environmental stress and Vibrio anguillarum in farmed European seabass. 

The day concludes with a session on Investable Infrastructure for Resilient Aquaculture, exploring the systems, equipment and investment required to support sustainable expansion. Contributors include representatives from NP Innovation and Gael Force. 

The Aquaculture – Driving Sustainable Growth conference is supported by Iceland Ocean Cluster, Matis and IFFO. It forms part of the wider IceFish 2026 programme, which takes place from 22–24 September and brings together the international fisheries, processing and aquaculture industries.
