SustainED Unveils 2026 Agenda Focused on Health Management in Shrimp Production
Equipped for Challenges: A New Initiative
SustainED has officially launched its 2026 agenda, emphasizing health management strategies and addressing the seasonal fluctuations that impact shrimp production in Ecuador. The launch event featured a specialized workshop that drew over 80 professionals from the shrimp farming industry.
Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Aquaculture
The workshop was orchestrated in partnership with the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA). With contributions from seven national and international speakers, the event serves as part of a continual educational initiative aiming to enhance sustainability in shrimp farming through informed technical practices.
Exploring Key Topics in Shrimp Health Management
Participants engaged in five technical sessions that covered a range of critical subjects, including:
- Early disease detection
- Seasonal behavior of pathogens
- Shrimp physiological stability
- Functional nutrition
- Utilization of biological tools
These sessions were designed to provide practical insights applicable in the field, ensuring that attendees left with actionable knowledge.
Key Remarks from Industry Leaders
During her address, SSP Director Pamela Nath emphasized the vital role of SustainED, stating, “SustainED was created to support the industry with an agenda that responds to what is actually happening on farms, in hatcheries, and in processing plants.” She noted that the transition from dry to rainy seasons significantly impacts the shrimp industry, thus necessitating technical tools for timely decision-making.
CNA Executive President José Antonio Camposano echoed her sentiments, asserting that “the sustainability of the shrimp industry depends not only on responding to challenges, but on building the capacity to anticipate them.” He underscored that SustainED is crucial in converting technical knowledge into practical tools that strengthen the shrimp production chain.
A Platform for Learning and Innovation
Positioned as a nexus for learning, SustainED fosters connections among producers, researchers, technicians, and solution providers. This edition benefited from sponsorship by Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health, which aims to bolster the competitiveness and responsibility of Ecuador’s aquaculture sector through educational initiatives. The SustainED program is set to continue throughout 2026, with six editions targeted at various stages of the shrimp production chain.
