Undercurrent has launched weekly price reporting for Alaska frozen green chum salmon roe, expanding its salmon pricing coverage into one of the industry’s most specialized and least transparent product categories.

The new assessment, shown below, tracks wholesale spot market values for frozen ocean-run pink salmon green roe blocks, reflecting prevailing FOB Seattle replacement values traded between primary sellers, exporters and wholesale buyers.

Published in US dollars per pound, the weekly assessment captures commercial wholesale market values of salmon roe products, providing market participants with greater pricing transparency during the Alaska production season and throughout the marketing year.

The launch comes as global salmon roe markets continue to navigate evolving supply dynamics, shifting Japanese demand patterns and increasing price volatility across salmon commodity markets, creating greater demand for independent benchmark pricing.

The launch of the new pink salmon green roe assessment complements UCN’s existing green chum salmon roe benchmark, providing independent pricing transparency across Alaska’s two largest commercial roe species. Together, the assessments allow market participants to monitor wholesale spot values for the products that underpin much of Alaska’s salmon roe trade, offering a clearer view of evolving supply, demand and replacement cost dynamics throughout the production season and marketing year.

The new benchmark further expands UCN‘s growing portfolio of global seafood price assessments, which now spans salmon, shrimp, scallops, groundfish, farmed whitefish, lobster, octopus and other key seafood commodities.
