Undercurrent proposes the launch of expanded US wholesale price reporting for crabmeat assessments alongside existing coverage.

As part of our continued effort to reflect evolving supply dynamics and ensure our assessments align with market realities, we are gathering feedback from industry participants on this proposed addition.

The UCN price assessments reflect trade from the importer to the first receiver in the US wholesale market, focusing on imported pasteurized crabmeat. Current coverage includes key producing regions in Asia and Latin America.  

The addition of Mexican Sea of Cortez products would further strengthen our coverage and provide greater transparency across a growing supply area.

Sample proposed product coverage:

Pricing basis: The proposed pricing assessments will continue to be based on ex-warehouse pricing, $/lb basis, reflecting spot market values from importers to first receivers in the US market. 

Quotation series: Prices will continue to reflect less-than-truckload (LTL) volumes, expressed in $/lb, unless noted. 

Origins: SE Asia, China, Vietnam, Venezuela and the proposed addition of Mexico.

New Species: Callinectes Bellicosis and Callinectes Arcuatus 

The new coverage will include the following product formats:
– Colossal
– Jumbo Lump
– Small Jumbo
– Super Lump
– Lump
– Claw
– U/40 cocktail claws; 12oz
– 50/70 cocktail claws; 12oz

This initiative aims to provide valuable and independent price benchmarks for the crabmeat industry, complementing our established reputation as a credible global seafood news supplier. With nearly 3,000 data sets across key species, this new service will further strengthen our offerings.
