Cattle numbers increased, accompanied by an improvement in quality. Reports indicated a decrease in lighter and secondary cattle, but a solid supply of weaners, feeder steers, and heifers. Prime trade cattle were also plentiful, as buyers focused on weight and condition for their purchases. Grown steers and bullocks were well represented, and there was a significant presence of prime grown heifers.
Price Analysis
Restocking steers showed an uptick in prices, with mid-week rallies pushing weaner prices to 574c for steers and 488c for heifers. Medium weight feeders improved in value, averaging 486c/kg and peaking at 544c. Heavy feeders maintained steadiness in prices, ranging from 440c to 522c/kg. Feeder heifers also demonstrated slight price increases, selling mainly between 420c and 468c/kg.
Trade cattle, however, saw a slight decline, with heavy trade steers priced between 480c and 514c and heavy heifers between 440c and 480c/kg.
Grown Cattle Pricing
Grown steers and bullocks primarily traded between 440c and 490c for prime lines, with lighter weights reaching up to 509c/kg. A robust batch of prime heavy grown heifers sold for 438c to 474c/kg. Heavy cows remained stable on average, although some sales exceeded expectations at prices ranging from 360c to 433c. Lighter weights averaged 390c/kg, marking a 12c increase.
