Utilizing HerdFlow for Efficient Livestock Management
The upcoming FutureBeef webinar will highlight the innovative HerdFlow livestock inventory management
system, specifically tailored for extensive cattle production industries.
Introduction to HerdFlow
Founded with the support of Meat & Livestock Australia, HerdFlow is a sophisticated platform enabling users to evaluate
herd performance against industry benchmarks using a standardized set of metrics.
A webinar detailing the application of HerdFlow will take place on Tuesday, September 30 at 12:30 PM AEST.

Challenges in Herd Data Management
One of the primary hurdles in Australia’s extensively-managed beef industry is the lack of accurate and reconciled herd data.
Collecting precise numbers in paddocks poses its own challenges, with additional complexities in recording and utilizing that data.
This creates bottlenecks in understanding and enhancing herd performance both at an individual herd level and within the industry as a whole.
Compounding this issue is the absence of industry-wide standards or a consistent language for categorizing livestock by
classes and age groups. Fortunately, this issue is being addressed through the implementation of the Australian Herd
Classification Guidelines.
Webinar Insights with Harry Evans
In this BeefConnect* webinar, Harry Evans from Bush Agribusiness will delve into how these guidelines inform animal classification
within the HerdFlow platform. Key points of discussion will include:
- How HerdFlow captures, reconciles, and reports on animal movements across various business units and locations.
- Methods for calculating and reporting vital statistics such as kilograms produced, herd inventory values, and reproductive rates.
- How budgeted and actual herd data can be incorporated and reported in the system.
- Options for data importation into the HerdFlow platform.
About HerdFlow
Developed by Bush AgriBusiness with funding support from the MLA Donor Company, HerdFlow is complimentary for MyMLA
members for the first year, applicable for one business unit. For more complex business structures and additional
recording years, subscription options are available.
The HerdFlow template has seen implementation within Northern Breeding Business (NB2) groups, providing valuable insights
into herd KPIs and emissions.
Importantly, HerdFlow is not designed to replace traditional herd management software, which typically tracks detailed data such
as check weights or paddock movements. Instead, it is developed as a complementary tool within the broader agricultural technology ecosystem.
