The Future of Vietnamese Pangasius Exports to the EU in 2025
The European Union has been a significant market for Vietnamese pangasius exports for many years. However, recent data from Vietnam Customs shows a decline in EU imports of pangasius from Vietnam over the past five years.
In 2015, the EU was the second-largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius, with export turnover reaching USD 285 million. Fast forward to 2024, and the EU has slipped to the fourth position, with total pangasius export turnover amounting to USD 161 million, a 44% decrease from 2015.
This decline is evident across various product segments. The market for value-added pangasius products has seen a significant drop, with EU imports decreasing from USD 8 million in 2015 to just over USD 3.5 million in 2024. However, there was a slight 3% increase compared to 2023.
On the other hand, exports of other frozen pangasius products to the EU increased by 2% in 2024 compared to the previous year. The highest value in the past decade was reached in 2022, with nearly USD 10 million in exports.
Looking ahead to 2025, the global economy is still recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, facing various challenges such as conflicts in different regions and economic uncertainties. These factors may affect consumer demand in the EU market, including for Vietnamese pangasius.
Despite these challenges, it is essential for the pangasius export industry to adapt to the changing market conditions and consumer preferences. By staying informed about global trends and being proactive in addressing potential risks, Vietnamese exporters can position themselves for success in the EU market.
As we navigate the uncertainties of 2025, it is crucial for stakeholders in the pangasius industry to collaborate, innovate, and seize opportunities for growth. By staying agile and responsive to market dynamics, Vietnamese pangasius exports to the EU can continue to thrive in the years to come.
