Bakkafrost Scotland Community Fund Brings Adventure to Stornoway Primary Pupils
More than 50 pupils from Stornoway Primary School embarked on an unforgettable outdoor adventure at Loch Insh Outdoor Centre, thanks in part to the support from Bakkafrost Scotland’s Community Fund.
Outdoor Adventures Await
A group of 54 Primary 7 students enjoyed a two-night stay filled with exciting activities such as skiing, archery, sailing, and cycling—many of which were new experiences for the youngsters. With limited options for overnight trips on the Isle of Lewis and Harris, this journey was a vital opportunity for the students to engage in a milestone adventure.
The Journey of a Lifetime
The adventure began with a three-hour ferry crossing to the mainland, followed by a two-hour bus ride, enhancing the sense of excitement and independence for the children.
Voices of Support
Murdo Frame, Bakkafrost Scotland’s Safety Health and Environment Partner, whose daughter Cerys participated, shared: “This trip marked the first opportunity for many of these children to travel without their parents. Not only did they get to engage in a variety of activities, but they also experienced newfound independence.”
Frame added, “The journey undoubtedly boosted their confidence as they prepare to transition to secondary school. The entire experience, including the ferry ride, made it even more adventurous and memorable.”
Empowering Young Minds
Mairi Macleod, one of the trip organizers from the school, stated: “We’ve observed how outdoor activities help our pupils grow, discovering strengths and determination they didn’t know they possessed. It’s remarkable to see shy, introverted pupils suddenly thrive during these experiences.”
She elaborated, “Being away from home and stepping out of their comfort zones fosters independence, resilience, and self-confidence among the students.”
A Bright Future Ahead
The generous support from Bakkafrost Scotland’s Community Fund not only made this adventure possible, but it also instilled life skills in these young learners that will benefit them as they advance in their educational journey.
