Andfjord Salmon Celebrates New Milestones in Aquaculture
Andfjord Salmon Group AS is thrilled to announce recent significant achievements at its Kvalnes site in Andøya, including the successful completion of pool K1 and favorable biological conditions in pool K0, following the recent smolt release.
Successful Smolt Release in Pool K0
On 30 September 2025, approximately 350,000 smolt were released into pool K0, each weighing around 180 grams. The latest data shows that only 95 mortalities have been recorded to date, translating to a remarkable survival rate of 99.97%. The fish exhibit excellent external health, with few visible injuries, and have already gained an average of 45% in weight since their release, showcasing exceptional biological performance.
Martin Rasmussen, CEO of Andfjord Salmon, expressed optimism regarding the smolt’s progress: “The release in K0 has surpassed our expectations. The logistics during the process went flawlessly, resulting in minimal fish loss. The smolt have shown an impressive appetite from day one and are growing faster than anticipated. This sets a great foundation, though much hard work remains ahead before we can fully celebrate.”
Pool K1: Another Step Forward
The company has successfully completed pool K1, marking it as the first newly built pool in the ongoing expansion at Kvalnes. This pool has been filled with seawater and is currently undergoing comprehensive testing and preparations ahead of the planned release of approximately 750,000 smolt in early November.
Rasmussen added, “Given the success of the K0 smolt release, we are aiming to replicate this positive outcome during the upcoming K1 release.”
Continuous Development at Kvalnes
Since the last production cycle concluded in June 2023, Andfjord Salmon has invested in developing new pools, a harbor area, and waterways to support large-scale production capabilities at Kvalnes. The site is strategically designed to accommodate future production volumes of around 48,100 tonnes (HOG + post-smolt).
With these advancements, Andfjord Salmon continues to position itself at the forefront of sustainable aquaculture, ensuring not only operational success but also commitment to environmental stewardship.
