President Trump Signs the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act

Trump has officially signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act in the Oval Office. Accompanied by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., USDA National Nutrition Advisor Dr. Ben Carson, dairy farmers, parents, and bipartisan members of Congress, the signing marks a pivotal moment for school nutrition.

Legislative Highlights

This landmark legislation aims to revive access to whole milk in educational institutions, aligning with the recently released Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025–2030, which advocate for the importance of full-fat dairy in a balanced diet.

“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, whole milk is back – and it’s the right move for kids, for parents, and for America’s dairy farmers,” stated Secretary Brooke Rollins. She emphasized that this bipartisan solution to school meals reflects what families intuitively know: nutrient-dense foods, such as whole milk, play a vital role in a healthy dietary pattern.

Secretary Rollins was joined by influential dairy farmers, including Thomas French, Kevin Satterwhite, Jamie Pagel, William Thiele, and Tara Vander Dussen. Together, they underscored that bringing whole milk back into schools bolsters both child nutrition and the livelihoods of rural communities dependent on dairy production. Rollins pointed out the Trump Administration’s continued efforts to revitalize the farming economy through fair trade practices, reduced costs, and reliable financing. Notably, between January and December of last year, there was a marked decrease in dairy product prices, with butter down by 3.4% and cheese by about 2%.

The USDA will begin implementation immediately, having issued program guidance to school nutrition officials. A proposed rulemaking process will commence soon to facilitate the swift reintroduction of whole milk in schools.
