Dalby Cattle Market Update

In a recent market update, there was a slight decline of 218 head, bringing the total yarding to 5886 at Dalby. The lineup included 1135 cows and 309 bulls. Despite a decrease in export buyer activity with one major player missing, regular feed, trade buyers, and restockers remained actively engaged.
Cattle Prices Trends
Lightweight yearling steers for restockers saw robust demand, with feeder classes improving by 4c to 10c/kg. A similar trend was observed in yearling heifers, where several classes indicated price increases. Conversely, heavy grown steers and bullocks saw a reduction of 20c/kg, while cows experienced further price drops of 8c to 10c/kg on top of last week’s reductions.
Price Highlights
Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock reached an impressive high of 596c/kg, averaging between 511c to 539c/kg. Domestic market yearling steers achieved a peak of 558c/kg, with most sales regular from 480c to 525c/kg. Heavyweight yearling steers to feed peaked at 518c/kg, averaging at 480c/kg.
For heifers, lightweight yearling types to restockers sold for up to 444c/kg and averaged 412c to 422c/kg. Mediumweight yearling heifers for feeding made 460c/kg while heavyweights peaked at 452c with an average of 408c/kg.
Market Reporting
Bullocks topped at 444c, averaging 433c/kg. Mediumweight 2 score cows averaged 333c, with a high of 346c/kg. Heavyweight 3 score cows averaged 363c/kg, reaching a maximum of 388c/kg. Bulls were sold at an impressive 400c/kg.

This week’s sale in Dalby showcased strong attendance among buyers. Heavy and kill cattle prices remained stable, and all feeder cattle performed admirably. Feeder bulls were notably cheaper, dropping by 5c to 10c/kg, with the best reaching 4.22c/kg. Bullocks maintained their previous week’s rates, topping at 4.40c/kg. Notably, feeder steers excelled, hitting a high of 5.182c/kg, while weaner steers peaked at 596c/kg.
