Queens, NY (March 3, 2025) — Burlap & Barrel, a leading purveyor of single origin spices sourced directly from smallholder farmers around the world, has launched Pomegranate Molasses from Urfa, Turkey. Made from the juice of fresh pomegranate seeds, this is a sweet & tart reduction with nothing added! It”s the pure flavor of pomegranate, ideal for dressings, marinades, drinks, desserts and glazes.
Pomegranate Molasses joins Burlap & Barrel’s growing lineup of sugar and honey offerings. They carry five single origin sugars: Powdered Coconut Sugar from Indonesia, Panela Cane Sugar from Colombia, Jaggery Brown Sugar from India, Golden Crystal Turbinado Sugar from Barbados, and Wood-Fired Maple Sugar from Vermont. All the sugars are single source and bring incredible flavor and texture to sweet baked goods and savory dishes.
They also carry three raw, unfiltered, sustainably harvested honeys from the miombo woodlands of Tanzania. The honeys, produced in partnership with the Jane Goodall Foundation, come in three flavors: Amber, Dark and Smoked.
Ethan Frisch, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Burlap & Barrel, says: “Pomegranate and other fruit molasses are some of the world’s oldest sweeteners, used in ancient Turkey to preserve and concentrate fruit juices since time immemorial. Our new single origin pomegranate molasses is made with fruit from those ancient pomegranate groves reduced using modern vacuum technology to preserve the vibrant pink color and mouth-puckering tartness of the fresh fruit without any of the bitterness of other pomegranate molasseses. It’s a pure pomegranate syrup, and is incredibly versatile, for sweets, savories and beverages.”
Bottles of the pomegranate molasses retail for $9.99 and are available at Burlap & Barrel, along with all the sugars and honeys.
