Episode Highlights

In this episode, Amanda Buckle (AB) introduces the podcast as the coolest seafood podcast, backed by the trusted team at Undercurrent News. She remarks, "We are diving deep into one of my favorite fish: wild Alaska pollock." Tom Seaman and Jacob Resneck join for an insightful discussion revolving around the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers’ annual meeting.

Lorin Castiglione (LC): "Don’t forget to stick around for exciting headlines, including the ongoing radioactive shrimp saga." Amanda humorously notes her mind wanders to the Imagine Dragons song "Radioactive" whenever this topic comes up.

Shrimp Recall Updates

AquaStar initiated a recall for 85,000 bags of Indonesian shrimp due to radiation concerns. This adds to earlier recalls of 18,000 bags and over 26,000 bags specifically from Walmart stores. These products were sold in over 18 stores across 31 states.

LC: "Check your freezers!" he urges, reminding listeners that no illnesses have been reported as of yet.

Direct Statements from the FDA

The FDA reiterated that no contaminated products have entered U.S. commerce, despite the massive recalls. Unfortunately, around 600 metric tons of caught shrimp were returned to Indonesia for potential distribution elsewhere, thankfully without reported radioactive traces post-inspection.

NASCAR’s Unique Lobster Prize

In a surprising twist, NASCAR has included a 20-pound live lobster as a prize for winners, dating back to 2008. This year’s winner, Ryan Blaney, expressed his lifelong dream of holding the lobster, stating he's "been wanting to hold that f****** lobster for 30 years." The winner gets their catch pressure-cooked and flash-frozen, perfect for celebrating a big win!

Appreciating Sustainability

NASCAR is also using its platform to educate fans on sustainably harvested North American lobsters, showcasing how they’re caught in a detailed 7-minute video.

Upcoming Adventures

Stay tuned as Amanda and Jacob will report from Cartagena, Colombia next week for the Global Seafood Alliance’s Responsible Seafood Summit.
