New Leadership at the Victorian Farmers Federation
Ryan Milgate Takes the Helm
Cropping farmer Ryan Milgate has been appointed as the new President of the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF), following the closure of nominations for several VFF leadership positions. He is set to work alongside Scott Young, a livestock farmer from Ballan, who will serve as the VFF Vice-President.
Both Milgate and Young were the sole nominees for their respective roles, allowing for an unopposed election. Milgate expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and shared his vision for the future of Victorian agriculture.
A Vision for Change
“I’m honored to accept the role as the next VFF President,” Milgate stated. “I look forward to collaborating with farmers and the wider industry to ensure their voices are prominently heard, especially regarding key challenges and opportunities in Victorian agriculture.”
He addressed pressing issues such as the current diesel and input crisis, the ongoing competition for land use, and the essential discussions surrounding equitable investment in regional areas. Milgate emphasized the importance of being proactive as the Victorian election approaches.
Continuing a Legacy
Outgoing President Brett Hosking remarked on the timely transition of leadership, expressing pride in their achievements and the strong representation the organization has maintained. “I wish all incoming representatives success in their new roles,” he shared, reflecting on the rewards of serving the farming community.
Hosking extended his gratitude to the VFF members throughout Victoria, highlighting the fulfilling nature of farming and the honor of representing them during his tenure.
Looking Ahead
Milgate and Young will officially begin their tenures following the 2026 VFF Conference in Ballarat on June 2, 2026. The VFF plans to announce all successful office bearers during this event, marking a new chapter in the organization’s leadership.
