This week at the Dalby Saleyards, there was a minor reduction of 274 head in total yarding, bringing the overall count to 7772. Despite the decline, the numbers remain significantly above average. The trend of large cow turnoffs continued with 1328 cows joining 2637 heifers in the pens. A fair representation of export buyers attended the auction, although many operated selectively compared to the previous week, resulting in less active participation from feed and trade buyers.
Market Trends
Prices generally saw a downward trend across all classes. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged a decrease of 20c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers destined for feeding saw a price drop of 20c to 28c/kg, although top-quality lines maintained stable prices. The all-class average for yearling heifers also dipped by 5c to 24c/kg, with premium lines continuing to attract solid interest.
Furthering the national trend, cow prices slipped again, falling by 7c to 17c/kg. This decline adds to the reductions observed in the previous week.
Specific Pricing Information
Light weight yearling steers made to 552c/kg, with average prices ranging from 489c to 504c/kg. Yearling steers for the domestic market achieved prices up to 546c, with most sales observed between 471c and 489c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed fetched a maximum of 526c, averaging 466c/kg. On the heifer side, light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock reached prices up to 446c, averaging between 380c and 386c, while medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 377c to 378c, selling for around 442c/kg.
Heavy grown steers peaked at 452c and bullocks reached 447c, averaging 442c/kg. Heavy grown heifers saw maximums of 430c/kg, while medium weight 2 score cows averaged 325c, topping at 336c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 353c; the best specimens achieved a maximum of 390c, averaging 372c/kg. Bulls made prices up to 398c/kg.
