Dalby Cattle Sale Report: Numbers Decline Amidst Dry Conditions
Total Yarding: 6905 Change: -1308

Despite persistent dry weather conditions, the cattle yarding at Dalby has seen a significant decrease, dropping by 1308 head to a total of 6905. The market featured a diverse lineup of cattle, including 1630 cows and 356 bulls. Export buyer attendance remained robust, with one additional operator joining the market for cows. A solid representation of feedlot and trade buyers, alongside restockers, contributed to active trading.
Market Trends and Price Movements
Lightweight yearling steers returning to grazing country showed resilience, remaining firm to slightly higher in price. Conversely, heavy weight yearling steers destined for feed experienced price improvements. However, yearling heifers generally failed to keep pace with the price levels observed in the previous sale. Notably, bullocks sold to export processors exhibited a positive price trend, while cow prices stabilized in certain instances, with plain condition lines drawing stronger interest.
Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged between 446c to 453c, with some selling for as high as 514c/kg. For the domestic market, yearling steers destined for feed reached top prices of 476c, averaging 453c to 454c/kg, while heavy weight counterparts made it up to 500c, typically averaging 450c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to restockers sold at a maximum of 355c, averaging from 292c to 323c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 328c to 331c, selling for up to 368c/kg, and heavy weight yearling heifers reached a peak of 406c, mostly trading at approximately 350c/kg.
Details of Heavy Weight Cattle Sales
Heavy grown steers for export made it up to 449c, with bullocks averaging around 431c after peaking at 436c. Medium weight 2 score cows exhibited an average of 261c, reaching a maximum price of 286c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 306c, with the highest-quality heavy weights selling for up to 350c and averaging 330c/kg. Heavy bulls found buyers at prices reaching up to 410c/kg, with one notable bull selling for $4,155/head.
