The supply of cattle at Dalby has shown a significant rise, with numbers increasing by 976 head to a total of 7217. A notable influx of cows has also been observed, reaching a market level of 2306 head.
In the yarding, older and heavier cattle made a substantial presence, comprising 4737 head in the first round of sales. Buyer attendance remained strong, with all parties actively participating in the market.
The presence of larger numbers of lightweight yearling steers targeting restockers contributed to a varied average price. However, top prices showed an uplift from the previous week’s levels. Yearling steers meant for feeding were firm, with regional differences in pricing.
Lightweight yearling heifers returning to paddocks garnered robust support, reflecting quality in the penned livestock. Heavyweight yearlings for export processing outperformed previous averages by 13c to 15c/kg. However, all cow classes experienced a drop, losing 20c to 25c/kg compared to the last sale.
Pricing Overview
Lightweight yearling steers returning to paddocks peaked at 576c, with most sales occurring between 442c to 480c/kg. Yearling steers for domestic feeding reached up to 498c, averaging between 450c to 463c/kg.
Heavyweight yearling steers were isolated at 470c, but most fell within the 423c to 428c/kg bracket.
Lightweight heifers designed for restocking commanded up to 420c, averaging 369c to 402c/kg.
Meanwhile, medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold for a firm range, from 400c to 406c/kg, reaching a peak of 440c.
The average for bullocks landed at 440c, hitting a high of 464c/kg. Heavyweight cows, positioned in various grades, averaged from 300c to 358c, with top-tier specimens reaching 402c.
Bulls capped at 386c/kg, showcasing the ongoing competitive dynamics in Dalby.
