Latest Insights from Dubbo Saleyards: Cattle Prices and Trends
Yarding Overview
A total of 3,720 cattle were yarded this week, a significant drop of 3,610 compared to previous sales. The recent rainfall in the area positively influenced the quality of the cattle, resulting in a well-graded selection across all sections, including a mix of prime cattle suitable for feeders and backgrounders.
Cattle Prices and Trends
Young cattle destined for the trade saw stable prices, with prime vealers and yearlings trading between 452c to 500c/kg. Feeder steers recorded an increase of 8c, selling between 428c to 559c/kg, while feeder heifers increased by 14c to 25c/kg, pricing from 414c to 504c/kg.
Restocker young cattle faced initial declines but gained traction throughout the sale, ultimately achieving gains of 15c to 20c/kg. Young restocker steers peaked at 620c/kg, and young heifers went back to the paddock at 474c/kg.
Grown Cattle Prices
Grown steers and heifers experienced slight increases, with prime grown steers selling between 470c to 511c/kg and grown heifers from 424c to 484c/kg. Cows also saw an uptick of 8c, with 3 scores averaging from 323c to 370c/kg. Prime heavy-weight cows traded between 347c to 420c/kg, with an average of 395c/kg. Cows resold to restockers fetched between 354c to 394c/kg, while heavy bulls reached 398c/kg.
