Ecuador’s Shrimp Sector Leverages Technology for Enhanced Performance at SustainED
Shrimp aquaculture is evolving, integrating new data and digital tools to enhance management across its value chain.
Event Overview
On April 14, over 60 professionals from Ecuador’s shrimp industry gathered for the latest edition of SustainED. This lifelong learning initiative, organized by the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), focused on exploring the adoption of digital solutions and technologies in the aquaculture sector, aiming to reinforce continuous improvement and innovation.
Insights from Experts
During the event, five national and international experts from renowned organizations such as Intelligon, EDISA, LarvIA, Biolan, and Solarteam shared valuable tools and case studies covering data integration, artificial intelligence, traceability, food safety, and renewable energy. The event, aptly titled “Digital Solutions in Aquaculture: Control, Efficiency, and Better Decision-Making in Shrimp Production,” was hosted at the Hilton Colón Hotel in Guayaquil.
Emphasizing Sustainability and Innovation
“SustainED is critical to our discussions as the sustainability of our industry heavily relies on its capacity to maintain consistent results over time. This demands better operational management and the foresight to mitigate risks. Digital solutions provide the needed visibility for timely reactions,” stated Pamela Nath, Director of SSP.
Similarly, José Antonio Camposano, Executive President of CNA, remarked, “Ecuador, renowned as the world’s leading shrimp producer and exporter, has consistently showcased its ability to innovate. Today, the focus has shifted from merely increasing volume to enhancing operational performance. With upcoming technologies, we can better grasp our operations, make informed decisions, and build trust through tangible results.”
A Platform for Knowledge Exchange
SustainED serves as a dynamic platform for continuous knowledge sharing and networking, encouraging the exchange of experiences and fostering the implementation of innovative solutions throughout the shrimp value chain.
