Food Lion’s Orange Bag Campaign Generates Over 13 Million Meals for Families in Need
Food Lion has announced an impressive achievement: more than 13 million meals were generated for food-insecure individuals through its 2026 Orange Bag campaign. This initiative ran from February 25 to March 17 and spanned across the grocer’s 10-state footprint.
A Community Effort to Combat Hunger
The campaign relied on the generous support of Food Lion customers, who participated by purchasing specially-marked bags filled with fresh navel oranges. Additionally, customers were able to make donations at the register or through Food Lion To Go, the retailer’s e-commerce platform. These contributions aided Food Lion Feeds’ partnership with Feeding America and local food banks.
The Impact of the Orange Bag Campaign
Since the Orange Bag campaign commenced in 2019, customers have played a pivotal role in providing a total of over 54 million meals through both navel orange bag purchases and in-store donations. This effort is especially crucial as nearly one in seven U.S. households currently face food insecurity, according to the most recent USDA data, highlighting the ongoing need for effective community-level hunger relief programs.
Voices from the Campaign
Kevin Durkee, the manager of Food Lion Feeds, emphasized the campaign’s effectiveness in facilitating accessible giving. He stated, “The Orange Bag campaign shows how simple it can be to come together and make a difference. We’re grateful for every customer and associate who made that impact possible.”
Linda Nageotte, President and COO of Feeding America, echoed this sentiment, noting, “Ending hunger requires strong partnerships, and campaigns like Food Lion’s Orange Bag initiative are a powerful example of that collaboration in action. We’re grateful for Food Lion’s continued commitment and for the customers and associates making an impact in communities, helping ensure neighbors have access to the food and resources they need to thrive.”
A Commitment to Hunger Relief
Since 2014, Food Lion Feeds has provided the equivalent of over 1.5 billion meals, with a goal of reaching 3 billion meals by 2032. Operating more than 1,100 stores across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, Food Lion is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize USA, committed to making a difference in the communities it serves.
