Record Harvest Volumes Mark a Milestone for Mowi Scotland
Mowi Site Sees Unprecedented Success in Q4 – In its latest quarterly results, Mowi has unveiled a remarkable year-end performance, culminating in a total revenue of EUR 1.59 billion and an operational EBIT of EUR 213 million just for the fourth quarter.
A Historic Year for Mowi Scotland
This has also been a benchmark year for Mowi Scotland, achieving astonishing harvest volumes of 71,603 tonnes—the first Scottish salmon farming entity to surpass the 70,000 tonne milestone.
Words from the COO
Ben Hadfield, Chief Operating Officer of Farming in Scotland, Ireland, The Faroes, and Canada East, expressed pride in the achievements:
“What a way to end the year. This record-breaking performance is the result of the dedication of all our staff in raising Scotland’s largest food export, while effectively executing our strategy to enhance fish health and optimize harvest.”
“A remarkable 60% of our annual volumes for 2025 were harvested before the third quarter, allowing us to navigate the more challenging biological season effectively and achieve better prices.”
Price and Volume Trends
The company has seen impressive price increases in Q4, supported by the strong performance of differentiated products like the Wester Ross brand and organic offerings sold to the U.S. The share of contracts also rose to 64%, compared to 58% in the previous year.
Operating margins slightly improved, standing at 15.6% for the fourth quarter compared to 15.3% in Q4 2024, with year-to-date margins at 18.7%—up from 17.8% in the preceding year.
Cost Management and Operational Innovations
Over the full year, Mowi succeeded in lowering costs, leveraging reduced feed prices, operational efficiencies, and benefits from increased volumes. Notably, Mowi Scotland introduced a post-smolt strategy along with a new broodstock facility, positioning itself for greater self-sufficiency in terms of Mowi strain eggs while addressing ecological challenges in Scotland.
Ben added:
“Our new hatchery at Ardessie sets a high standard and significantly advances our work in Mowi Genetics. Led by John Richmond, this project represents his third hatchery—a noteworthy achievement that lays a robust foundation for our operations in Scotland.”
Improvements in Performance Metrics
Furthermore, improvements in feed conversion ratios and superior share have been noted when compared to Q4 2024, and the average harvest weight alongside seawater production saw considerable advancements throughout the year.
Success in Consumer Products
The year also proved to be a record-setting period for Mowi Consumer Products, closing with impressive figures for both the quarter and the overall year. The operational profit reached €197 million, with global product weight soaring to 265,000 tonnes, thanks in part to the efforts of CPUK at Rosyth.
