Background and Education
Katelyn Hemmer (she/her) is a recent graduate from Carleton College, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 2024. Her academic pursuits led her to explore a critical topic: the commodification of food, especially in the context of post-industrial farm structures and the increasing emphasis on local food systems.
Practical Experience
After graduation, Katelyn dedicated a year to Earth Sky Time Community Farm in southern Vermont. This hands-on role provided her with invaluable experience in sustainable farming practices. Currently, she is enhancing her agricultural knowledge through a Farmer in Training program at the Old Fort, offered by Fort Lewis College in Hesperus, Colorado. Her journey through the food system has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of various roles, from seed cultivation to compost creation.

Katelyn’s experiences have spanned multiple facets of the food industry including:
- Working on farms
- Contributing to food bank operations
- Engaging with local co-ops and restaurants
