Record Cattle Prices at Roma Saleyards Amidst Sellers’ Market

The Roma Saleyards witnessed a vibrant sellers’ market this week, with just over 6,100 head of cattle yarded.
The atmosphere was electric, driven by active competition from regular processors, lotfeeders, and backgrounders.
The presence of rain in the area added to the excitement, ensuring quality cattle were on offer.
Strong Demand Amid Quality Offering
Sellers saw a significant boom in the steer market, particularly with high-quality lines of bullocks being showcased.
The cattle selection primarily originated from the local Maranoa supply district, including areas such as Roma,
Yuleba, Injune, with others coming from Charleville and Morven to the west.
Additionally, consignments came from further afield, including Julia Creek, McKinlay, and Boulia in North Queensland.
The exceptional quality of cattle this time reinforced the reputation of Roma Saleyards as a premier marketplace.
Notable Sales and Highlights
Among the standout sales, Glen and Therese Nielson from ‘Mt Weribone’ at Surat successfully offloaded a run of heavy bullocks, averaging 473c/kg and weighing 546kg, leading to impressive returns of $2,583/hd. They achieved a top price of 512c/kg for pens of Santa Gertrudis cross and Simmental cross steers, averaging 469kg for a sale of $2,404/hd.

Reynella Grazing also made headlines, offloading a substantial line of Droughtmaster cross steers for a consistent
508c/kg over fourteen pens, with their heaviest pen averaging $2,649/hd.

In another highlight, MK Henry Co presented two pens of Droughtmaster cross steers, achieving 542c/kg,
weighing an average of 262kg, yielding $1,420/hd. The heavier pen sold for an average of $1,496/hd.
Other Noteworthy Transactions
Usher Pastoral Co’s run of Droughtmaster cross steers averaged 466c/kg, reaching returns of $2,606/hd, showcasing
the competitive strength prevalent across the market.

Furthermore, Colin and Deb Walsh, based near Roma, delivered a line of Santa Gertrudis cross steers, averaging
491c/kg, earning $2,062/hd.

According to the NLRS Commentary, the market overall was 15c to 25c/kg stronger, with yearling steers and heifers
showcasing notable demand. This trend reflects the long-term bullish trajectory for the cattle industry in the region.
