Following beneficial winter rainfall, cattle prices have continued to rise, with nearly 8,400 head yarded at the Roma Saleyards.
Market Dynamics
With the market remaining firm, many categories experienced price increases of 10 cents or more. The Tuesday sale attracted a busy crowd of regular processors, lotfeeders, and backgrounders, all vying to secure premium cattle.
The diverse selection and high-quality cattle available reaffirmed Roma Saleyards as the favored marketplace amidst the ongoing cattle demand.
Yarding Sources
The cattle yarding was primarily sourced from local supply districts, including Roma, Injune, and Taroom, as well as from Morven, Charleville, and Augathella. Cattle were also consigned from regions as distant as Boulia, McKinlay, Barcaldine, Blackall, and Mount Isa in Queensland.
Notable Sales
Able Pastoral Partners, known as ‘Two-Up’, presented a quality run of Angus cross and Santa Gertrudis cross steers, which averaged 561c/kg, weighing in at 246kg for a total return of $1,379 each.
Peter Seawright’s Santa Gertrudis cross steers reached a high of 572c/kg at 220kg, netting $1,259 per head.
Two additional pens of Angus cross steers sold at a straight 564c/kg, each weighing 244kg for a final return of $1,379.

Mulga Ag steers with GDL agent Anthony Hyland
Mulga Ag also had a successful day, offloading a batch of Angus cross steers that averaged 547c/kg while weighing 300kg, yielding $1,642 per head. A particular pen even achieved 568c/kg for steers weighing 307kg, resulting in $1,742 per head.

Jersey Plains Pastoral Co contributed an impressive lot of Droughtmaster heifers from Julia Creek, averaging 433c/kg at 367kg, with notable pens reaching up to 453c/kg.

Able Pastoral Partners saw their Santa Gertrudis steers reach 572c/kg, with a top price of $1,512. Similarly, Mulga Ag recorded impressive sales with Angus cross steers yielding 568c/kg, totaling $1,963.
Detailed observations showed a variety of other notable sales, with many sellers achieving encouraging returns.
