FOLLOWING recent saleyards trends, numbers offered on AuctionsPlus this week eased 7pc to 15,040 head, with stronger competition across most young cattle categories helping underpin a dearer market overall. Clearance remained solid at 85pc.

Steers 200–280kg produced a large offering of 3378 head, clearing 89pc to average 523c, up 13c on last week.
Steers 280-330kg lifted 2xc to average 506c, clearing 91pc of the offering of 1869 head, while 330-400kg descriptions gained 8c to average 484c, clearing 92pc of the 954 offered. Light steers less than 200kg were the only category to soften, easing 16c to average 530c/kg.
A small offering of only 102 feeder weight steers +400kg struggled to find buyers, clearing only 6pc to average 438c
Highlights included 30 Angus steers 7 months averaging 191kg from Foster North, VIC returned 714c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Korumburra, VIC, and 54 Angus steers 8-9 months averaging 284kg from Barongarook West, VIC, selling for 580c/kg and travelling to a buyer near Warrnambool, VIC.
Heifer results were mostly improved, particularly through the heavier weights. Heifers 200–280kg offered 2210 head, clearing 98pc to average 431c/kg, up 42c.
Heifers 330–400kg lifted 55c to average 446c/kg, clearing 90pc of the 679 offered. Moving downards in price were 280-330kg heifers, down 9c to average 422c, while light heifers less than 200kg dropped 6c to average 398c.

Biggest losses were seen for NSM heifer and calves, which fell $505/pair to average $2449, clearing 40pc, while NSM cows and calves lifted $789/head to average $2774. PTIC cows continued to attract steady competition, averaging $1867/head with a 78pc clearance.
