AgZen Secures $10 Million in Series B Funding to Revolutionize Crop Protection
MIT spin-out AgZen has successfully closed a $10 million Series B funding round, led by returning investor DCVC Bio, with participation from Astanor Ventures, Material Impact, and Syngenta Group Ventures. This infusion of capital aims to bolster the commercial scale-up of the agtech start-up.
Founded in 2020, AgZen has developed an innovative spraying optimisation technology named RealCoverage. This AI-driven system enables real-time adjustments to spraying operations, allowing for precise application of crop protection products. As a result, it significantly reduces input costs and enhances yields. Additionally, AgZen plans to expand its offerings to include spreading capabilities with the upcoming launch of RealNutrition later this year.
In 2025, AgZen’s RealCoverage technology covered nearly a million acres and is projected to expand to two million acres through contracted business. Farmers using this technology have reported up to a 50% reduction in chemical usage, alongside cleaner fields and increased yields.
The Series B funding will support AgZen’s commercial expansion in North America, Argentina, and Australia, as well as enhance the company’s product development pipeline, which extends into 2028. According to Vishnu Jayaprakash, CEO and co-founder of AgZen, the company is “sold out for the year” and still anticipates substantial growth.
“The pull from the market has been phenomenal,” Jayaprakash stated. “We anticipated that farmers would embrace our product, but we did not fully expect the rapid demand from the industry and the eagerness for us to integrate our solution into their operations. Given this increased interest, both our existing and new investors were keen to raise additional resources to fuel our growth.”
Strategic Partnerships to Maximize Impact
As part of its commercialization strategy, AgZen is forming partnerships with crop protection companies such as Syngenta and Corteva. These collaborations aim to bring AgZen’s cutting-edge technology to more farmers while identifying additional opportunities across the value chain.
“Everyone in the value chain wants a piece of this and wants to be part of bringing this to market,” Jayaprakash explained.
This growth comes at a critical moment as farmers globally brace for a challenging 2026, with geopolitical conflicts, notably the Iran war, driving up fertilizer prices and energy costs. AgZen’s technology provides a vital solution, helping farmers manage crop input expenses more effectively.
“The expenditure on chemicals is becoming increasingly aligned with farm profitability,” Jayaprakash noted. “By improving efficiency, we can have a direct positive impact on growers’ bottom lines.”
