UCN proposes transition of tuna price assessments from monthly to weekly reporting

Undercurrent is proposing to move seven of its existing tuna price assessments from monthly to weekly publication in response to growing market demand for more timely pricing information and greater market transparency.

The change would align these assessments with UCN‘s existing weekly tuna coverage, which includes Skipjack tuna, whole frozen, CFR Bangkok, UCN and Skipjack tuna, whole frozen, Manta ex-vessel, UCN.

Assessments affected

  • Yellowfin tuna, whole frozen 10kg+, Manta ex-vessel, UCN
  • Yellowfin tuna, whole frozen, Seychelles FOB, UCN
  • Skipjack tuna, whole frozen, Seychelles FOB, UCN
  • Yellowfin tuna, whole frozen, Vigo, Spain, CFR, UCN
  • Skipjack tuna, whole frozen, Vigo, Spain, CFR, UCN
  • Yellowfin tuna, whole frozen, Abidjan ex-vessel
  • Skipjack tuna, whole frozen, Abidjan ex-vessel

Methodology

The product specifications, pricing basis and methodology for each assessment would not change. Only the publication frequency would.

UCN would continue to collect pricing information from, but not limited to, vessel owners, traders, brokers, canners and processors active in each location. Confirmed transactions would be given the most weight, supplemented where necessary by firm bids and offers and other verifiable market information.

Historical monthly data would remain available, and the weekly series would continue from the existing monthly series.

Publication schedule

The proposed weekly assessments would be published every Thursday by 5:00 p.m. London time.
