Market Overview: Wagga Saleyards Cattle Prices and Trends
Yarding: 3465 Change: +386

Current Market Insights

In a recent yarding at Wagga Saleyards, there has been a moderate increase in numbers, however, the overall quality of stock was predominantly secondary. While some pens displayed grain-assisted or crop-finished cattle, the majority showed a lack of weight, with only a few cattle exceeding 500kg. Feedlots demonstrated strong competition across all weight classes, particularly for well-bred Angus steers in the 200-280 kg range.

Demand and Pricing Dynamics

Trade steers and heifers are currently in high demand, with prices ranging from 410 to 492c/kg. Well-bred feeder steers have remained stable in pricing, but coloured cattle and crossbreds have experienced a decrease in interest relative to previous weeks. Medium-weight feeder steers sold for prices between 415 and 527c/kg. There has been notable competition from feedlots and backgrounders for lightweight, well-bred steers, with those in the 200-280 kg category achieving prices from 450 to 615c/kg. Heifers sold between 345 and 462c/kg, while the lightweight steers returning to the paddock saw varying prices from 386 to 580c/kg.

Export Trends and Cow Pricing

On the export front, heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors are currently limited, with the bulk selling for prices ranging from 422 to 464c/kg. Cow numbers reached 502/head, although there has been a noticeable price correction of 40c and more in certain areas. Heavy cows are selling between 360 to 417c/kg, and leaner cows weighing under 520kg exhibited various price trends influenced by fat cover, with D2 and D3 cows priced from 210 to 370c/kg.
