WellFish Tech strengthens Norwegian operations with appointment of Stein Johannessen as Technical Lead. Bringing extensive experience in fish health, smolt production and commercial aquaculture, Johannessen will play an important role in supporting the company’s continued growth in the Norwegian market.
Johannessen joins from Benchmark Genetics, where he spent eight years in roles spanning smolt health, data management and technical documentation. Prior to this, he held commercial positions at MSD Animal Health, combining a strong scientific background with valuable experience in the commercial aquaculture sector.
He holds a Master’s degree in fish health from the University of Bergen and has research experience from the Sea Lice Research Centre.
The appointment forms part of WellFish Tech’s continued investment in Norway, strengthening its scientific and operational capabilities as interest in data-driven fish health insights continues to grow.
Charlie Granfelt, CEO of WellFish Tech says:
“Stein brings exactly the combination of expertise and experience we have been looking for. He has a strong understanding of fish biology, hands-on experience with smolt health and health data, and valuable insight into the commercial aquaculture sector. We have significant ambitions in Norway, and Stein joins us at an important stage in our development. His expertise will be invaluable as we strengthen relationships with existing customers and expand our reach to more fish farmers.”
Johannessen is looking forward to contributing to the company’s continued development:
“I’m excited to join the talented team at WellFish Tech. Better insights into fish health give us new opportunities to understand and prevent health challenges. I strongly believe in WellFish Tech’s approach of using fish physiology to provide farmers with better information for decision-making. This is an area with significant potential for the aquaculture industry,” said Stein Johannessen.
About WellFish Tech
WellFish Tech gives fish farmers a 28-day mortality forecast built from blood biochemistry – detecting early physiological signs of disease and stress weeks before visible symptoms, at an accuracy no environmental or production data alone can match. The method is built on the company’s own patents and non-lethal sampling methodology in line with Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) regulations. Headquartered in Paisley, Scotland, WellFish Tech employs 26 people and operates in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Norway, and Canada.
