The National Fish & Chip Awards have reached a pivotal moment in the Restaurant of the Year category, narrowing down the contenders and announcing the five exceptional restaurants that will compete as finalists for 2026.

For 38 years, the National Fish & Chip Awards have set the standard for excellence in the industry. Recognized as the premier competition for fish and chip businesses, entrants must undergo a comprehensive assessment conducted by industry specialists, who evaluate every aspect of the restaurants.
Judging Criteria
The judging committee prioritizes key characteristics such as proven sustainability, unwavering quality, and exceptional service. The following five fish and chip restaurants have earned their place as finalists by meeting these rigorous criteria:

The finalists reflect the dedication of independent, family-run businesses backed by the Q Partnership, consisting of Friars Pride, Henry Colbeck, and V.A. Whitley. Together, they bring an impressive 280 years of collective experience to the UK fish and chip market.

Final Judging Process
The finals will determine which restaurant excels in hospitality through anonymous in-person quality checks assessing food, ambiance, and customer service. All finalists eagerly await the awards ceremony on February 25 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, where the next Restaurant of the Year will be announced. The current holder is Bells Fish & Chips (Framwellgate Moor) in Durham.
