Lantra Announces Opening of Women in Scottish Aquaculture Mentoring Programme for 2025
Lantra is excited to reveal that the Women in Scottish Aquaculture (WiSA) Mentoring Programme is back for 2025, with applications now open for interested individuals.
The mentoring program, spanning nine months, is facilitated by Skillfluence, Ltd. It offers a unique opportunity for career development and professional growth for both mentees and mentors. With guidance from a dedicated career coach, the program aims to connect aspiring leaders with experienced mentors from the aquaculture industry.
Scotland’s aquaculture sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy, with many women already contributing significantly to its success. The WiSA Mentoring Programme focuses on providing equal opportunities and clear pathways to leadership roles within the industry. By fostering mentoring relationships, the program helps participants develop skills, boost confidence, and navigate career progression in aquaculture.
Crown Estate Scotland has generously sponsored the mentoring program, making it fully funded for participants. The scheme welcomes passionate professionals looking to make a difference in the industry and transition into leadership roles as they advance their careers.
Jill Couto-Phoenix, Head of Aquaculture at Lantra, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, stating, “Investing in skills development for the aquaculture industry is crucial for securing a sustainable and innovative future for Scottish aquaculture.”
Anneli Hill, Head of Aquaculture at Crown Estate Scotland, also commended the initiative, highlighting the positive impact it has on industry professionals, providing them with opportunities to support and guide their junior colleagues.
Teresa Garzon, Chair of the WiSA advisory group, emphasized the importance of the mentoring program in fostering industry growth and nurturing future leaders.
The program will feature one-on-one sessions between mentees and mentors, conducted remotely online due to Scotland’s varying geographies. However, participants have the option to meet in person if preferred.
WiSA is inviting applications from potential mentees and senior industry professionals interested in becoming mentors. Mentors should have at least three years of experience in the aquaculture sector and commit to nine meetings with a mentee over nine to ten months. Mentees should be working in or studying an aquaculture-related field in Scotland and commit to the same meeting schedule with their mentor.
Applications for both Mentee and Mentor positions close on 24th February 2025. Interested individuals can apply to the program here.
