Hudson Valley Fisheries (HVF), a New York-based steelhead farmer utilizing recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), has made a significant stride in expanding its market reach. The company has announced that its 1-2 pound whole steelhead trout is now available in select Whole Foods locations across New York and New Jersey.
The land-based farm of HVF is situated in Hudson, New York, and the recent market expansion was unveiled on Thursday, February 6. This move signifies a strategic partnership between HVF and Whole Foods, allowing more consumers to access their premium steelhead trout.
In addition to the new availability in Whole Foods stores, HVF already serves markets in New York and Massachusetts. Their steelhead trout can be found at 11 farmers markets in New York City, further enhancing accessibility for seafood enthusiasts.
Established in 2014, Hudson Valley Fisheries has been at the forefront of sustainable aquaculture practices. The company recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first RAS producer to obtain a four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification in 2022. This recognition underscores HVF’s commitment to maintaining high quality and environmentally friendly operations.
