Aldi Joins Forces with Avantor and McCain Foods in Climate Initiative
Aldi, alongside Avantor and McCain Foods, has officially joined the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition (Supplier LOCT), a consortium founded in 2021 to expedite efforts toward science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.
Commitment to Reducing Scope 3 Emissions
The addition of these new members enriches a coalition of sustainability leaders dedicated to tackling Scope 3 carbon emissions. As businesses grow increasingly aware of the climatic urgency, they recognize their pivotal role in the broader climate solution.
“Suppliers increasingly recognize the urgency in being part of the climate solution,” stated Britt Harter, a partner at Guidehouse. “Through Supplier LOCT, participants become experts within their own organizations on all the steps necessary to realize meaningful carbon emissions reduction.”
Aldi’s Perspective on Climate Action
Josiah McClellan, the director of sustainability at Aldi USA, expressed pride in joining Supplier LOCT, emphasizing the importance of collaboration on climate initiatives:
“Accelerating climate action requires collective movement, and as Aldi makes strides to become one of the most sustainable grocers, we have a critical role to play in helping our suppliers set science-based emissions goals.”

Impact of Supplier LOCT
Currently, the initiative boasts participation from 25 organizations, having guided nearly 1,000 suppliers in effectively measuring, monitoring, and reducing their emissions. This is achieved through hands-on workshops and mentoring sessions led by industry experts from Guidehouse.
Among the notable food and beverage companies involved in this initiative are names such as The Coca-Cola Company, General Mills, Mars, McDonald’s, Nestlé, and PepsiCo, reflecting a broad commitment across the sector.
Educational Workshops and Mentorship
Guidehouse provides a structured education program for suppliers, covering essential topics from developing GHG programs to creating footprints and science-based targets. The final course also guides suppliers on how to disclose their findings to the Carbon Disclosure Project and other relevant stakeholders.
“Supplier LOCT underscores the critical role that cross-industry collaboration plays in addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change,” said Nicole DelSasso, director of Supplier LOCT at Guidehouse.
A Tailored Approach for All Suppliers
The program is inclusive, welcoming all suppliers regardless of their current expertise in climate-related topics. By adapting to feedback and collaborating with experts, the curriculum evolves to remain relevant amid shifting global climates and new regulations.
As the consortium progresses, it is clear that a united front in the business community is essential for meaningful climate action, highlighting the shared responsibility each organization bears in combating climate change.
