Guayaquil has officially become the epicentre of global aquaculture with the inauguration of AQUAEXPO International 2025. The event, held in the Baquerizo Moreno hall of the Guayaquil Convention Centre, commenced on Monday at 7:00 p.m. and attracted attendees including national authorities, ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, foreign delegations, special guests, and media.
A Historic Gathering
The event saw participation from over 500 attendees, marking it as the most significant meeting point for global aquaculture stakeholders. The opening ceremony featured prominent figures such as:
- Danilo Palacios, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries
- Luis Alberto Jaramillo, Minister of Production, Foreign Trade and Investment
- Humberto Plaza, Governor of Guayas
- Marcelo Vélez, Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Aquaculture

Social Responsibility Highlighted
During the opening ceremony, the National Chamber of Aquaculture demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by presenting a check for $10,000 to the REDNI Foundation. This amount was raised during the CamaRun 5K charity race organized in collaboration with Biomar Ecuador on October 4. The funds will bolster the foundation’s child nutrition programs and were presented by Vélez, Camposano, and Andrés Rivadulla, General Manager of Biomar Ecuador, to María Fernanda Vásconez Pinto, REDNI’s Strategic Relations Manager.
Acknowledgment of Excellence
The ceremony also featured the recognition of Dr. Leonardo Maridueña Alcívar by the Organizing Committee of the World Aquaculture Congress for his outstanding contributions to the sustainable development of Ecuadorian aquaculture. With over three decades of service to the CNA, Dr. Maridueña has been instrumental in implementing vital policies related to biosecurity, environmental management, and food safety, which are essential to Ecuadorian shrimp’s global leadership.
Official Inauguration
The event concluded with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially inaugurating AQUAEXPO International 2025. Following the ceremony, authorities embarked on a guided tour of the Trade Fair, marking the commencement of the exhibition.
Technical Congress to Address Key Issues
Additionally, the Technical Congress is set to feature 60 national and international speakers who will cover critical themes such as animal health, nutrition, product quality and safety, production efficiency, the adoption of emerging technologies, and the future prospects of the shrimp market.
As the event unfolds, AQUAEXPO International 2025 stands as a beacon of innovation and commitment to the future of aquaculture, uniting stakeholders from around the globe in pursuit of sustainable practices and collaborative growth.
