Cornish Chef Emily Scott Named MSC Ambassador
Award-winning chef, restaurateur, and author Emily Scott has officially joined the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) UK and Ireland as an ambassador.
Championing Sustainable Seafood
With three acclaimed books emphasizing the importance of seafood provenance and a career devoted to coastal cooking, Emily is uniquely positioned to advocate for the MSC’s mission to combat overfishing. The MSC is recognized globally as the leading ecolabel for sustainable fishing practices.
A Journey Along the Coast
Emily spends her time between Cornwall, where she has successfully operated several restaurants, the Cayman Islands as the executive consultant chef for Calypso Grill, and Bordeaux. Her dedication to promoting sustainable seafood makes this role particularly exciting for her.
Emily’s Vision
“A call to the coast, living and working by the sea has shaped my whole career in cooking,” Emily remarked. “For over 25 years, I have championed sustainable fish and shellfish, aiming to empower individuals to cook fish at home while grasping the meaning of sustainability.”
She added, “Becoming an MSC Ambassador represents an exhilarating opportunity to elevate the dialogue surrounding our oceans, offering guidance and support for those choosing sustainable seafood.”
Books and Beyond
Emily’s passion for well-sourced, simple ingredients shines through in her written works, including Sea & Shore, Time & Tide, and Home Shores. Additionally, her popular Substack, Shore to Shore, enhances her outreach to those interested in sustainable cooking.
Welcoming Emily to the Team
George Clark, Programme Director for MSC UK and Ireland, expressed his enthusiasm for Emily’s appointment. “Chefs like Emily hold the power to influence our shopping and dining habits through their remarkable cooking. Having previously served dishes to the world’s leading figures at the G7 summit in Cornwall, Emily knows how to reach decision-makers through her culinary narratives.”
“We are thrilled to collaborate on campaigns and events, showcasing Emily’s recipes that feature MSC-certified ingredients to further raise awareness about our program and the benefits of sustainable seafood,” he remarked.
