Dalby Cattle Sale Sees Significant Increase in Yarding
Yarding: 8046 Change: +5556

This week’s Dalby cattle sale witnessed a remarkable surge, with a total yarding of 8046 head. This reflects an impressive increase of 5556 head compared to the previous sale. Noteworthy was the rise in cow numbers to 1438, alongside the offering of 212 bulls. Steer numbers remained robust, with just under 2000 head presented.
While export buyer attendance saw a decline from the previous week, southern operators actively participated in the market, complemented by the regular feed and restocker buyers.
Market Insights
The influx of cattle allowed buyers to exercise selectivity, resulting in a slight easing of average prices across various classes. Notably, well-bred lightweight yearling steers received strong support from restockers. The top-end yearling steers destined for feeding experienced good demand, although average prices dipped slightly. Bids for the best lightweight yearling heifers returning to the paddock were competitive; conversely, lesser-quality lines saw price reductions.
For medium and heavy weight yearling heifers geared for feeding, the market was well supplied, witnessing price reductions of 8c to 20c/kg. Good heavy cows for export processors averaged 7c/kg less, while medium weight plain condition lines showed resilience, remaining firm to slightly higher due to restocker interest.
