Cattle Market Update: Dalby Sale Reports Significant Changes
Market Overview
Yarding: 7767 Change: -1448
The supply of cattle at the Dalby sale decreased by 1448 head to 7767, following a notably large yarding the previous week. The number of cows penned reduced to 870, while heifer numbers increased to 1,600 head. Buyer attendance remained strong, aided by additional support from southern operators.
Price Trends
Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock generally maintained prices close to the previous week, with a notable supply providing average price variations. Quality lines received significant support, while the increase in light weight yearling heifers was adequately absorbed by buyers, keeping prices stable.
About 600 bullocks were penned, with average prices experiencing a small decline. Meanwhile, cows were sold at firm prices or improved by up to 4c/kg.
Light weight yearling steers achieved a top price of 602c, with most sales ranging from 530c to 535c; poorer quality lines averaged 415c/kg. Yearling steers intended for the domestic market reached a high of 548c, averaging between 475c and 516c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers averaged around 500c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers returned prices of up to 465c, averaging between 425c and 443c/kg, while medium weight yearlings to feed peaked at 476c, averaging from 418c to 429c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers averaged 424c and made up to 468c/kg.
Full mouth bullocks reached a high of 430c, averaging 396c/kg. The 4 and 6 tooth bullocks made up to 470c, averaging 459c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 385c, while the best of the cows made to 420c, averaging 407c/kg. Heavy weight bulls achieved prices of up to 424c/kg.

Dalby recorded a large yarding today, accompanied by a notable increase in backgrounder cattle compared to last week. Most categories experienced firm or slightly softer trends, with secondary types facing the most pressure. Cows retained the same strength as last week, while weaner steers saw a slight decline.
