The number of cattle penned at Dalby dropped by 971 head to a total of 6,573. The supply of cows also decreased to 1,100 head, while the number of bulls increased to 505. Export buyer participation remained strong, particularly from southern operators.
Cattle Price Trends
Lightweight yearling steers returning to pasture saw prices remaining stable compared to the previous week. Yearling steers destined for feed exhibited a minor variation in pricing based on quality; however, overall prices remained steady. Only top-quality yearling heifers experienced demand, with a slight drop in quality leading to a significant price decrease of up to 28c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks maintained stable prices, while medium-weight plain condition cows experienced a downturn. In contrast, quality heavy weight cows gained 5c to 10c/kg.
Detailed Pricing Analysis
Light weight yearling steers for restockers reached up to 538c and averaged between 474c to 490c/kg. Yearling steers for the domestic market made up to 500c, averaging between 471c to 475c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers showed prices up to 508c, with averages around 468c to 473c/kg.
Lightweight yearling heifers returning to pasture made it up to 466c and averaged 407c/kg, while medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold for up to 458c with averages from 397c to 417c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers also reached up to 458c, averaging 413c/kg.
Heavy grown steers commanded prices around 448c, while bullocks sold at 436c, with most averaging around 424c/kg. Grown heifers reached up to 423c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold for up to 357c and averaged about 341c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 379c, with top prices reaching up to 420c and an average of 398c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold for up to 463c/kg.
