GAPP Calls for Proposals on Market Research in Brazil and Colombia
Deadline for Submissions: January 30, 2026
The Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) has announced a new initiative to bolster demand for Wild Alaska Pollock in key export markets. In pursuit of deeper insights into opportunities and challenges in Brazil and Colombia, GAPP is seeking proposals from market research companies to conduct comprehensive market assessments.
Understanding Market Constraints
Craig Morris, GAPP’s Chief Executive Officer, noted that the organization has identified significant constraints facing the U.S. Alaska Pollock industry within the Brazilian and Colombian markets. These constraints include product dimensions and shapes derived from Wild Alaska Pollock fillet blocks.
“By gaining a thorough understanding of these challenges, we aim to strategically address them and highlight the advantages of U.S.-caught Alaska Pollock over competing whitefish products,” explained Morris.
Objectives of the Market Assessments
The research will provide GAPP members with valuable information regarding:
- The current consumption landscape for whitefish block and fillet portions in Brazil and Colombia
- The competitive environment for Wild Alaska Pollock
- Barriers—both perceived and real—that affect consumption
- Available further processing facilities in the region
- Potential opportunities for impactful marketing to stimulate demand
A Commitment to Long-Term Opportunities
“Our Board has emphasized the importance of strategically exploring long-term opportunities for Wild Alaska Pollock in international markets,” said Morris. “This research represents a crucial step in fortifying our presence in Brazil and Colombia, allowing us to leverage informed marketing and dedicated market development to create new avenues for our product.”
Funding and Proposal Submission
This research initiative will receive partial funding through grants from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Emerging Markets Programme (EMP). Detailed proposal specifications can be found here.
Proposals must be submitted to Ron Rogness at ron.rogness@alaskapollock.org by the deadline of January 30, 2026.
