MTGA Spreads Thanksgiving Cheer to Minnesotans in Need
The Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) is embracing the spirit of giving this November as it continues its longstanding commitment to support Minnesotans confronting food insecurity. For over a decade, since 2008, MTGA has designated a portion of the proceeds from the popular Minnesota State Fair Turkey To Go® food stand to purchase and donate $10,000 worth of turkey products sourced from local Minnesota farms.
Partnership with Second Harvest Heartland
This year, MTGA has once again partnered with Second Harvest Heartland—Minnesota’s foremost hunger-relief organization—to facilitate the distribution of these generous donations. On November 6th, approximately $5,000 worth of whole turkeys and turkey breasts were delivered to Second Harvest Heartland’s distribution center located in Brooklyn Park, MN.
Volunteer Efforts Make a Difference
In a heartfelt show of community spirit, Minnesota turkey farmers, industry partners, and MTGA staff volunteered their time at the distribution center. Their efforts resulted in the packaging of 211 bags of onions, totaling 8,568 pounds. This substantial contribution helped provide the equivalent of 7,140 meals for Minnesota families in need.
Upcoming Events for Give to the Max Day
As part of the month’s activities, Second Harvest Heartland is set to host a turkey dinner distribution event at Community Emergency Services (CES) in Minneapolis on November 20th—coinciding with Minnesota’s annual Give to the Max Day. Utilizing its mobile distribution trailer, the organization will distribute not only the donated turkeys but also a variety of traditional Thanksgiving sides to families facing food insecurity.
Commitment to Ending Hunger
MTGA leadership will be present at the distribution event, further highlighting the association’s steadfast commitment to collaborating with Second Harvest Heartland in the collective mission of eradicating hunger across Minnesota.
