Mowi Scotland Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence in Salmon Farming
Mowi Scotland is marking a significant milestone as it commemorates 60 years of dedication to raising top-quality salmon, from sea to plate. Situated along the rugged west coast of Scotland, Mowi’s salmon is nurtured by farmers in remote Highland and Island locations, contributing to local economies and providing essential employment opportunities.
Ben Hadfield, Managing Director of Mowi Scotland/COO Scotland, Faroes, Ireland & Canada East, reflects on the company’s journey: “60 years ago, visionary fish farmers stocked the first generation of farmed salmonids into Lochailort. Today, our commitment to hard work, optimism, and problem-solving remains steadfast as we aim to harvest over 70,000 tons of premium Scottish salmon by 2025.”
Mowi’s impact extends beyond creating jobs in rural areas. The company actively supports local communities through various initiatives such as housing assistance, sponsorship of sports teams, coastal clean-ups, and contributions to food banks.
Congratulating Mowi on its 60th anniversary, Tavish Scott, Chief Executive of Salmon Scotland, acknowledges the company’s evolution into the largest producer of Scottish salmon and a key economic contributor to the Highlands and Islands.
From its farms to processing facilities in Fort William and Rosyth, Mowi’s salmon is distributed to major retailers in the UK and exported globally.
In 2025, Mowi Consumer Products UK in Rosyth celebrates its 10th anniversary, showcasing remarkable growth and innovation. The facility, with state-of-the-art technology, produces a quarter of a million healthy salmon meals weekly, driving category growth and consumer engagement.
Reflecting on a decade of achievements at Mowi Consumer Products UK, Bertil Buysse, Managing Director of Mowi Consumer Products Western Europe, recognizes the team’s dedication in establishing the largest UK salmon processor.
Future Plans
Mowi’s ambitious plans for 2025 and beyond include:
- The completion of the processing facility upgrade at Blar Mhor in Fort William, incorporating cutting-edge technology for salmon processing.
- The opening of a broodstock facility at Ardessie and the Inchmore Visitor Experience to enhance stakeholder engagement.
