Delaware Valley University Receives Generous Donation for Poultry Science Center
Delaware Valley University (DelVal) is poised to enhance its agricultural education offerings with a significant contribution from Perdue Farms. The Maryland-based company and its charitable partner, the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, have generously donated $100,000 to support the construction of a new Poultry Science Center on DelVal’s main campus.
Supporting Future Leaders in Agriculture
This donation underscores Perdue’s commitment to fostering the next generation of agricultural professionals, aligning with its initiative, Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors®. The aim is to improve community quality of life and build resilient pathways for students in the field of agriculture.
The grant was presented to Dr. Benjamin E. Rusiloski, President of Delaware Valley University, and Dr. Broc Sandelin, Dean of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, during a special event on Wednesday. In addition, the Perdue Foundation had provided an earlier funding support of $25,000 for the project in October 2023, further demonstrating their commitment to advancing education in poultry science.
A Vision for Hands-On Learning
According to Dr. Sandelin, the growing poultry industry is increasing the demand for well-trained professionals. The new Poultry Science Center is set to equip students with hands-on learning experiences while also supporting the introduction of a new academic program focused solely on Poultry Science. “We are thankful to our industry partners who are addressing workforce gaps by investing in this essential development,” noted Dr. Sandelin.
The anticipated state-of-the-art Poultry Science Center will include a variety of learning spaces, such as a broiler building, a layer building, pen research trials, laboratories, and classrooms, making it a comprehensive resource for students. To acknowledge Perdue’s support, a study room within the Center will be named in honor of Perdue Farms.
Commitment to Education and Workforce Development
Mike Levengood, Chief Animal Care Officer and Farmer Relationship Advocate at Perdue, emphasized the importance of investing in education for the future of the agriculture sector. “Our support for the Poultry Science Center at Delaware Valley University not only enhances practical learning opportunities but also prepares students for valuable careers in the poultry industry,” Levengood explained.
