Poultry Science Association Announces Record Journal Impact Factor Growth
In a significant development for the field of poultry research, the Poultry Science Association (PSA) has announced an impressive increase in the Journal Impact Factors (JIF) of its leading publications. According to the newly released 2024 Journal Citation Reports™ by Clarivate, the flagship journal, Poultry Science, has seen its Impact Factor soar from 3.8 to 4.2, while The Journal of Applied Poultry Research (JAPR) has risen from 1.6 to 2.0.
Understanding Journal Impact Factors
The Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is a key metric used globally to evaluate the influence and standing of academic journals. Published annually, it measures the average number of citations received by articles in a journal over a two-year period. An increase in JIF not only signifies enhanced visibility but also indicates the journal’s scientific quality and relevance within its discipline.
Reflections on the Growth
“These increases speak volumes about the caliber of research published in our journals and the trust the global scientific community places in PSA,” remarked Andy Vance, Executive Director of PSA. “This achievement is a testament to the exceptional leadership of our Editors and Managing Editor, who ensure that our publications uphold high standards of scientific integrity and editorial diligence.”
A Legacy of Excellence
Published continuously since 1921, Poultry Science stands as one of the oldest and most referenced journals in animal agriculture. In contrast, JAPR, which launched in 1992, focuses on delivering practical scientific research with immediate applications for commercial poultry production.
Future Endeavors
“Our mission as an Association is to advance the discovery and dissemination of poultry science,” Vance added. “The recent growth in Impact Factors emphasizes that PSA journals are vital resources for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers seeking reliable and high-quality scientific information.”
Earlier this year, PSA also expanded its portfolio by acquiring European Poultry Science, a journal with nearly nine decades of publishing esteemed poultry research. Transitioning to an Open Access format under the leadership of Dr. Barbara Tzschentke promises to further enhance the journal’s impact and visibility.
