Queensland Agriculture Industry Receives a Fresh Start with New Blueprint
The Crisafulli Government has announced a revitalized approach for the agriculture sector, unveiling the Primary Industries Prosper 2050 plan. This initiative comes after extensive collaboration over the past six months involving the Government, industry stakeholders, and primary producers from all regions of Queensland.
Key Priorities Identified
From the consultations, five critical priorities emerged:
- Market growth and value-adding
- Innovation, readiness, and adoption
- A skilled and agile workforce
- Connected and shared infrastructure
- Coexistence and community support
- Ease of business with coordinated and harmonized regulation and systems
Economic Goals
The Primary Industries Prosper 2050 blueprint aims to increase Queensland’s primary production output to $30 billion by the year 2030.
Community Engagement
More than 3,200 Queenslanders participated in a state-wide consultation launched in February. This initiative included 16 in-person regional sessions, five webinars, and public drop-in hubs at major agricultural events, resulting in hundreds of submissions.
Regional Action Plans
The implementation of the blueprint will occur through five-year action plans tailored to specific regions and industries, ensuring accountability and measurable results across Queensland.
Three Regional Industry Government Working Groups, composed of primary producers, industry representatives, and departmental staff, are set to develop plans for various regions including Far North Queensland, North and Western Queensland, Central Queensland, and more.
Future Initiatives
In addition to regional plans, two industry-specific initiatives are on the horizon: a Queensland Future Timber Plan, currently open for public consultation, and a forthcoming Fisheries Industry Plan.
Government Support
The Premier, David Crisafulli, emphasized that Prosper 2050 serves as Queensland’s blueprint for increasing agricultural output. “We are breaking new ground for Queensland’s agriculture sector, pivotal for our economy,” he remarked.
“This blueprint outlines a bold vision for the future, crafted with input from thousands who contribute to the industry daily. We aim to unlock new opportunities in every part of Queensland, ensuring the sector’s vitality for generations,” added Crisafulli.
Quote from Minister for Primary Industries
Minister Tony Perrett stated, “Prosper 2050 is more than just a strategy – it’s a collaborative effort with farmers, fishers, foresters, researchers, and regional communities.” He highlighted the importance of listener-centered planning in defining actions that meet the needs of the sector.
“The Crisafulli Government is committed to supporting our producers with a solid strategy that is both visionary and practical,” Perrett concluded.
